The Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) has introduced the National Allied Health Digital Uplift Plan, a strategic initiative designed to bolster the digital capabilities of allied health professionals across the nation.
This plan aims to facilitate seamless sharing of health information among practitioners, patients, and multidisciplinary care teams, thereby enhancing the quality and efficiency of patient care.

Developed in collaboration with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, and supported by Allied Health Professions Australia, the plan is the culmination of extensive consultations with over 220 allied health professionals, 60 peak bodies, consumers, software vendors, and government stakeholders. Paul Creech, ADHA's Chief Program Officer, emphasised that the plan is tailored to meet the specific needs of allied health practitioners, offering suitable infrastructure, streamlined registration processes, hands-on training, and secure information-sharing mechanisms.

The plan outlines a phased approach with specific goals:

  • Short Term (2025-26 to 2026-27): Facilitate easy registration and connection to national digital health tools, increase awareness and confidence in using these tools, embed privacy and security standards, and encourage active engagement in digital health reforms.
  • Medium Term (2027-28 to 2028-29): Build momentum for wider adoption through demonstrated success among early adopters, reduce technical barriers, promote consumer contribution to health records, and support the use of connected digital systems for electronic prescribing and secure messaging.
  • Long Term (2029 onwards): Achieve seamless integration of digital tools into everyday workflows, connect allied health professionals to national digital health infrastructure, and utilise data safely to improve care and inform decision-making.

For health care professionals, particularly those in allied health, this plan signifies a concerted effort to bridge the digital divide and promote interoperability within the healthcare sector. Embracing these digital advancements can lead to more efficient practice management, improved patient outcomes, and enhanced collaboration with other healthcare providers. Professionals are encouraged to engage with the resources and support offered through this initiative to stay at the forefront of digital healthcare delivery.
