In a significant development for Australia's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Cowbell, in partnership with Zurich Australian Insurance, has launched 'Prime One', a standalone cyber insurance program designed specifically for businesses with annual turnovers up to AUD $100 million.
This initiative addresses the growing need for comprehensive cyber protection in an increasingly digital landscape.

Prime One offers coverage limits up to AUD $5 million per claim, providing substantial financial protection against cyber incidents. The program is structured to streamline the insurance process, enabling brokers to quote, bind, and issue policies in under five minutes. This efficiency is particularly beneficial for SMEs seeking prompt and hassle-free insurance solutions.

Zurich's role in this collaboration is pivotal, supplying the underwriting capacity that underpins Prime One. Cowbell complements this by delivering advanced underwriting technology, claims handling, and cyber risk services, ensuring a robust and responsive insurance offering.

The partnership between Cowbell and Zurich is characterized by a fully delegated, exclusive, multi-year collaboration, emphasizing a long-term commitment to enhancing cyber resilience among Australian SMEs. This is especially pertinent given the rising prevalence of cyber threats such as ransomware attacks, data breaches, and business interruptions due to IT outages.

Despite the increasing awareness of cyber risks, many smaller Australian firms have traditionally relied on packaged policies with limited cyber extensions or have lacked dedicated cyber coverage altogether. Prime One aims to bridge this gap by providing a straightforward policy structure that aligns with the unique needs of SMEs and the modern cyber risk environment.

Jack Kudale, Founder & CEO of Cowbell, highlighted the importance of simplicity in cyber protection, stating that it should empower businesses to operate confidently. By partnering with Zurich, Cowbell offers Australian organizations a dependable foundation for cyber resilience, supported by continuous underwriting, risk intelligence, and a proven track record in managing cyber risk.

Cowbell's underwriting approach leverages an AI-driven assessment model to generate a comprehensive view of an applicant's cyber exposures. This innovative method ensures that coverage is tailored to the specific risks faced by each business, enhancing the relevance and effectiveness of the insurance provided.

To support the program's rollout, Cowbell has appointed Alric Lal as Head of Business Development for Australia. With two decades of experience in corporate broking and financial lines, Lal's expertise is expected to drive the adoption of Prime One among Australian SMEs.

As cyber risks continue to evolve, the introduction of Prime One represents a proactive step towards equipping Australian SMEs with the necessary tools to safeguard their operations against digital threats. This initiative underscores the critical role of tailored insurance solutions in fostering a resilient and secure business environment.
