Australian travellers are facing ongoing flight disruptions, with cancellation rates climbing above long-term averages.
According to the latest data from the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE), the national flight cancellation rate reached 2.6% in February 2025, exceeding the long-term average of 2.2%.
On-time performance for both arrivals and departures also fell below historical benchmarks.

In light of these disruptions, the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) advises passengers to understand their rights and prepare contingency plans when travelling. Judith Gamble, RACV Travel Insurance Manager, emphasised the importance of being aware of one's insurance coverage to navigate potential travel disruptions effectively.

Travellers are encouraged to review their travel insurance policies to ensure they are adequately covered for flight cancellations and related disruptions. Understanding the specifics of one's policy can provide peace of mind and financial protection in the event of unexpected travel changes.

As flight disruptions continue to pose challenges, being informed and prepared can make a significant difference in managing travel plans and mitigating potential losses.
